A SnapShot of Janet Newton:
Janet is an active member of Sweetwater Camera Club & President from 2014-2022, Georgia Nature Photographers Assoc., NG3c & NANPA. She has been taking pictures since she was twelve where she started with a film camera and learned to develop in a darkroom. Her artistic background extends back to high school art class and 4 years on the yearbook staff as designer and photographer. She spent early times as a boys undefeated baseball coach and for years as a "scout" on a wagon train with over two hundred horses. For years, she was a Hotel Banquet Sales Manager and then her 20 year career as Human Resource Manager, when she retired. Loving photography, she became a member of the Sweetwater Camera Club in 2012 and received Photographer of the Year 2013-14-15-19 & 20. She has held the position of President for eight years. |
She now spends her energy taking pictures in her communities events, the local museum, garden club, monthly local magazine, newspaper and judging for camera clubs. For two and a half years she wrote for the front cover of the Community page in the paper about photography with the clubs pictures. The Local Newspaper "Reader's Choice Award" for Photography went to Janet four straight years 2018-2021. Janet's photography has been published in local, regional and international publications. She has been in numerous exhibits and photo contests, fence galleries, Art Centers, the Georgia Capital, GNPA & ArtPop.
Janet is an avid gardener at her home in Douglasville of acres of perennials where she spends a lot of time in her backyard named by her husband, "Janaway Gardens", where she loves to photograph her flowers, butterflies, insects and visiting birds. Her yard is a certified wildlife habitat through the National Wildlife Federation.
In 2020 through ArtPop Street Gallery, Janet was chosen to have her image posted on a vinyl billboard for one year. In addition, she was on 80 digital billboards in 21 Georgia counties including the Atlanta Regional Airport. She was proud to be a nominee for the 2021 Governor's Award for the Arts & Humanities. Janet just completed in 2022 the Photography Chairperson for the Atlanta Botanical Gardens 'Metamorphosis' exhibit of over 250 images. During our recent state's 2022 Arbor Day, I assisted with my photography skills of the planting five American Chestnut trees as part of a restoration effort. Recent "Breaking News" in 11-22, my image was selected for the 2023 Metropolitan North Georgia Water Reflections Calendar for May and also selected as the Grand Prize Winner!
